Statistics of buyers of real estate in Spain

According to the latest statistics from July 2021, foreign buyers account for about 11% of the total number of real estate purchase and sale transactions in Spain. Among these buyers, British citizens, French, Germans and Belgians predominate. Also, a significant share is occupied by Russians, Italians and Scandinavians.

It is worth noting that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the real estate market in Spain, including the purchase of real estate by foreigners. In 2020, the number of transactions involving foreign buyers decreased by 38.5% compared to 2019.

However, starting from the second quarter of 2021, there has been an increase in the number of transactions related to the purchase of real estate by foreign citizens. This is due to the gradual lifting of restrictions on international travel and the recovery of the tourism industry in Spain.

The Costa Blanca is a popular region in Spain, located on the Mediterranean coast. According to statistics, the greatest demand for real estate in the Costa Blanca among foreign buyers is observed among citizens of great Britain, Germany and Belgium.

In 2021, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Costa Blanca continued to be an attractive destination for investors. According to the Idealista portal, in January 2021, foreign buyers accounted for 22% of all real estate transactions on the Costa Blanca. Among foreign buyers, the British occupied a leading position, accounting for about 15% of all transactions. Germany and Belgium rank second and third respectively.

But it is worth noting that the data can vary from year to year, and the percentage of buyers from different countries can vary depending on the season, economic situation and other factors.
