A SIP in Spain is a health insurance card that is needed to receive any services in local hospitals. This document should not be confused with health insurance, as they have different functions. A health insurance card is an individual number of a foreign citizen, under which he/she will be registered in the state health care system. The use of such a card will be mandatory for all foreign citizens who decide to stay in the country. Registration takes a minimum of time, after which you are given a document to provide upon request. Most foreigners try to apply for this document as soon as possible. The fact is that the health insurance number will be required when contacting the hospital for any issue. You need to present it at the first registration, then you will not be asked for a card.
