Festival "Day of the Virgin of Pilar"

In October, the Spanish city of Zaragoza turns into a real firework of colors and emotions, celebrating the Day of the Virgin of Pilar, the patron saint of the city and all of Spain. It is one of the most iconic and crowded holidays in the country, which gathers thousands of tourists and locals every year. Festive events last for a whole week, usually starting on October 12, the main day dedicated to the Holy Virgin.

Flower Square

The traditional streets of Zaragoza are transformed these days: they become the stage for concerts, parades and theatrical performances. The main events unfold in Pilar, where the basilica of the same name is located, known for its splendor and historical significance. Thousands of people come to the basilica to pay their respects to the Virgin of Pilar. One of the key traditions is the offering of flowers, when crowds of people bring bouquets, creating a huge flower carpet from them. This spectacle symbolizes the unity and faith of the citizens, and is also one of the most photographed events in Spain.

Fruit offer

Equally impressive is the Fruit Offerenda, a parade where participants dress up in traditional costumes and townspeople and guests carry baskets of fruit and vegetables. This parade symbolizes gratitude for the harvest and the support of those who need help.

Nightlife

For children, young people and families, festival events are organized for every taste - from attractions and master classes to folk dances and street performances. In the evening, Zaragoza is immersed in the atmosphere of fireworks and light shows illuminating the night sky over the Ebro. Residents of the city and visitors gather on the waterfront to enjoy this breathtaking sight.

What else to try

The Pilar Festival is also a time for gastronomic fairs, where you can taste local cuisine and learn more about the culinary traditions of Aragon. Restaurants and cafés prepare special treats, from classic paella to grilled meats, highlighting the unique taste of the region.

The event combines Catholic traditions and modern Spanish flavor. The Feast of the Holy Virgin of Pilar is, first of all, an opportunity to see and feel the identity of Spain in one of its oldest cities.
